MARILYN ROYLE
B i o g r a p h y
I started singing Acapela in the early 90s and joined Greater Manchester Ladies Barbershop Harmony Club.
There I learnt the craft of vocal harmony singing.
This was like having vocal coaching for three hours every week.
Later I joined Cheshire Chord Co and won many competitions.
I decided after five years I needed a break from rigorous rehearsals and joined forces with another barbershopper and we bought backing tracks did the clubs but on a very small scale.
I later got an agent, went solo and performed at weddings, parties and corporate events.
I stopped singing for about four years and semi retired but,
In 2012 I met Steve Hall a keyboard player and we formed a duo which turned into a trio then we were five and now go out as A Swingin' Affair. Steve introduced me to The Double B Jazz Orchestra where he was pianist there. I took band charts down for one song. The rest is history.
I am now resident female vocalist along with Les Thomas who has been resident male vocalist for many years.
I have also been guest vocalist with the New Lights Big Band,Brian Ward Band and Harry Goulden Big Band.
I am very proud to be part of the Band scene and have made many friends on my travels. I have learnt a great deal from these wonderful musicians and still continue to do so. I have written and recorded my own song just recently. Made CDs to raise money for Cancer Research at the Christie Hospital.
I am very grateful to certain individuals who have guided me in this wonderful world of music, Steve Hall, Phil Steadman and Terry Desmond. People who have arranged my music, Steve Holt, Pat Huston, Phil Steadman.
To all my friends and fans who follow me to gigs a big thank you.
We are keeping music live.
